About the tournament
In today's Japanese judo world, only a limited number of athletes are able to continue their competitive careers. Yet many judoka still refuse to give up on their dreams and continue striving for excellence. GOZU JUDO was created to give those athletes a place to shine. We aim to provide opportunities for dedicated judoka who never stop challenging themselves, while helping them build a sustainable career as professional athletes. As Japan's first judo tournament to offer prize money, GOZU JUDO represents a new step toward rebuilding the future of judo in the country where it was born. The name "GOZU" is inspired by Gozu, a deity associated with rebuilding and transforming things for the better.
PRO CLASS
Many judoka leave competition—not because they lose their passion, but because they no longer have a place to compete. Yet many still pursue their dreams.
GOZU JUDO is their stage. Japan's first prize-money judo tournament, where 16 selected athletes in each weight category compete for a ¥100,000 champion's prize. If you're serious, this is your stage. Fight your way to the top.
MASTER CLASS
For many adults, there are few opportunities to keep competing after earning a black belt. GOZU JUDO's Masters Division gives you a place to put your training into practice. Open to everyone aged 20 and over, the Masters Division is a free-entry class where you can enjoy the challenge of competition. Matches are divided by age and weight, creating a fair and welcoming environment for judoka of all levels. Awards will be presented to the top finishers. Step onto the tatami and show your judo.
